Overseas Students Foundation was invited to attend
the annual fundraising dinner and award ceremony of the National Committee on US-China Relations
The 2019 Annual Fundraising Dinner and Awards Ceremony of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations was held in New York on the evening of November 14. At the event, many American political and business figures expressed their expectations for a cooperative relationship between the United States and China. Mr. Wang Zhaonan, Chairman of the Overseas Students Foundation, and members of the Executive Committee were invited to attend the dinner where they enjoyed time with guests.

The Overseas Students Foundation maintains a long-term good relationship with the National Committee on US-China Relations. It is not only an honor to participate in and witness this far-reaching event, but also allows a vast array of people to know the Overseas Students Foundation’s deep understanding of Sino-American educational culture. The organization brings awareness to the important role the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations plays as a bridge between China and the United States.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, and Sino-US relations have developed into one of the most important win-win relationships in the world today. The Overseas Students Foundation is honored to be invited to attend this grand event, and to reflect on the Sino-US friendship over the past 40 years among Chinese and American political and business people. China-U.S. education and talent development strategies have made unremitting contributions.

Mr. Wang Zhaonan, Chairman of the Overseas Students Foundation, said in an interview with reporters: “As the saying goes, there is no doubt in life at forty. China and the United States have now established diplomatic relations for 40 years. We believe that future Sino-US relations will achieve major breakthroughs on the basis of mutual cooperation! The Overseas Students Foundation genuinely cares about prospective international students and students studying in the United States, and is full of love for Chinese and American students and scholars. The Overseas Students Foundation will make unremitting efforts to repay the Chinese and American societies.”

Former Secretary of State Dr. Kissinger and Bridgewater Association founder Ray Dalio delivered keynote speeches on Sino-US relations respectively. The dinner was hosted by Stephen Orlins, President of the National Committee on US-China Relations. In his opening speech, Orlins quoted Martin Luther King’s famous saying “You will see the light of the stars at the darkest moment on the top of the mountain”, and he also quoted the poem of Li Bai, Tang Dynasty poet, “There will be times when you ride the wind and waves, hang your sails directly to help the sea ” Sino-US relations reflected on past cooperation, and the confidence in the two countries to build a better future. Colleagues also thanked the participating organizations for their generosity, announcing that a record-breaking $2.7 million was raised that night.

Former US Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger was invited to deliver a speech. His message was that as modern major powers, China and the United States cannot ignore each other’s existence, nor can they maintain suppression of the other. China and the United States formed a strategic alliance 40 years ago and have improved mutual understanding over the years. At the same time, they must face the reality that they are competitors In his speech, Kissinger expressed his optimism and firm support for Sino-US relations.

Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio founded the hedge fund in 1975, and today it is the industry leader at nearly $130 billion. Dalio has personally established a deep relationship with China over the years. As early as 1984, he was invited to China to teach economics and participated in the preparation of the Shanghai Stock Exchange. He also established the China Care Foundation and the Beijing Dalio Foundation to help poor and disabled children.

Founded in 2019, the Overseas Students Foundation is dedicated to the growth of international students. The purpose is to organize and support public welfare projects for international students; to promote the development of young international students’ leadership; simultaneously continuing to explore the future development and potential of international students, while delivering positive energy. The foundation will abide by its original intention and strive to promote cultural and educational exchanges between China and the United States.
